Encyclopedia Brotannica would like to wish a happy birthday to two very important bros today. First is former heavyweight boxer Joe Louis.
Lewis, also known as the Brown Bomber, was born on this day in 1914, making him 96 today. Louis helped elevate boxing from a nadir in popularity in the post-Jack Dempsey era by establishing a reputation as an honest, hardworking fighter at a time when the sport was dominated by gambling interests. Louis's championship reign lasted 140 consecutive months, during which he participated in 27 championship fights, including 25 successful title defenses – all records for the heavyweight division. In 2005, Louis was named the greatest heavyweight of all time by the International Boxing Research Organization.
Secondly, EB wishes a happy birthday to funnyman Stephen Colbert.
He is the host of Comedy Central's The Colbert Report, a satirical news show in which Colbert portrays a caricatured version of conservative political pundits. Colbert's book, I Am America (And So Can You!), is a hit amongst bros for it's hilarious insights into everything from nature to atheists. Makes for a perfect table-top book or something to read while you're taking a shit.
