Birthdays of the Day
Encyclopedia Brotannica would like to wish a happy birthday to two very important bros today. First is former heavyweight boxer Joe Louis.![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfgnQiM_7xI54WM2x_nUW57-RKhyphenhyphenlZrcveTMaxmGgHaCPjSedhru_tAIiisfv6d-osxATpyeRTU_Yv6TlIF0M4LYyF5J7EdSjSjbu3ntMVkZGru9rxGyz0lp2V32w4rLjglZsyp-wlh6Bl/s320/joe+louis.jpg)
Lewis, also known as the Brown Bomber, was born on this day in 1914, making him 96 today. Louis helped elevate boxing from a nadir in popularity in the post-Jack Dempsey era by establishing a reputation as an honest, hardworking fighter at a time when the sport was dominated by gambling interests. Louis's championship reign lasted 140 consecutive months, during which he participated in 27 championship fights, including 25 successful title defenses – all records for the heavyweight division. In 2005, Louis was named the greatest heavyweight of all time by the International Boxing Research Organization.
Secondly, EB wishes a happy birthday to funnyman Stephen Colbert.

He is the host of Comedy Central's The Colbert Report, a satirical news show in which Colbert portrays a caricatured version of conservative political pundits. Colbert's book, I Am America (And So Can You!), is a hit amongst bros for it's hilarious insights into everything from nature to atheists. Makes for a perfect table-top book or something to read while you're taking a shit.
